The Department of Biotechnology has established following three Bio-energy Centres:1. DBT-ICT Centre for Energy Biosciences, Institute of Chemical Technology, Matunga, Mumbai, Maharashtra2. DBT-IOC Centre for Advanced Bio-energy Research, R&D Centre, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Sector – 13, Faridabad, Haryana3. DBT-ICGEB Centre for Advanced Bio-Energy Research, International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, New DelhiMain objectives of above three Bio-energy Centres are :1. To conduct a multi-disciplinary bio-energy research involving biology,chemical science and material science etc.2. To develop technology for second generation bio-fuel .3. To deploy bio-fuel technologies with existing capabilities to scale up.4. To perform cutting edge research using Synthetic and Systems biology approaches towards the development of novel technology for bio-fuel production.Through R&D network projects support is being given for Biohydrogen, Biobutanol and algal bio-fuels. |
